Brokenness
6:45 AMOn Wednesday evening, there was ice and snow. The roommates and I ended up talking much about revival and repentance and many other things. It's just a continuation of some things that the Lord has been speaking to me. And I felt compelled to pick up a book called, "Brokenness" by Nancy Leigh DeMoss and reread it. In one chapter, she contrasts the heart attitudes and actions of the proud vs. broken person. Here are a few quotes that have stirred my soul.
Broken people are more conscious of their own spiritual need than anyone else's.
Broken people are compassionate; they can forgive much because they know how much they have been forgiven.
Broken people have a sense of their own unworthiness; they are thrilled that God would use them at all.
Broken people receive criticism with a humble, open spirit.
Broken people are concerned with being real; what matters to them is not what others think but what God knows; they are willing to die to their own reputation.
Broken people are grieved over the cause, the root of their sin. They are grieved, not because of the consequences of sin, but because they have dishonored God.
Broken people walk in the light. They are aware of the true state of their heart.
Broken people continually sense their need for a fresh encounter with God and for a fresh filling of His Holy Spirit.
